Y5 Viking Immersion day

Last Friday, Kevin the Viking man visited us at Simon de Senlis to give us an insight in to the history and daily life of the Vikings. We had the chance to try on various types of armour that would have been worn in battle, as well as look at weapons such as shields and spears. He also brought in artefacts which we had to handle very carefully. One of Miss Coade’s favourite parts of the day was learning about the Viking long ship boats and studying a replica model. Which aspect of the day did you enjoy the most?

We would like you to write at least two detailed paragraphs below during morning activities this week. If you need to jog your memory, look back at the OneNote document where there are many pictures and videos of the day to help you with your writing. Remember to use correct punctuation including capital letters and full stops as well as exciting vocabulary, connectives and openers to add excitement to your writing and capture the audience’s interest. You may also want to include photos to enhance your writing.

  1. A Viking man came in on Friday 9th January, his name was Kevin. He told us really interesting facts. In the morning he showed us a Viking long ship that he had made but he hadn’t finished making it. He got some volunteers up to put the ores in the long ship. He also showed us replacers of Viking weapons and armour .

  2. The Viking man was called Kevinn . When the Viking man came in he taught us a lot , he taught us every thing that we need to know about Vikings . My favourite bit when the Viking man came in was when he showed us a model of a long ship he made himself. A long ship is a very strong an it is very long and it has a animal head on the end of it . The Vikings travelled all over the world in long ships , selling and trading there slaves .

  3. My favourite thing about the Viking man coming in was all of the games they were AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!! especially when we played that COTTON BALL CHALLENGE it was so epic that I had to shout it five times EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC you see. I absolutely LOVED when we had to line up as if we were Viking warriors and we got arrows thrown at us (javalins really.)

  4. My favourite part of Viking day was when we all got into a Viking defence line. We all got given a fake shield and a fake spear. We had to charge forward and get into arrow formation, one person with their shield facing out and one person behind them with their shield above that persons head, we had to do this in a line of 12, it was awesome. But I have another favourite part, when we got shown all of the Viking weapons, the charging shield, the sword, the axe, the spear and the normal shield. And then we got to pass around Viking artifacts such as a Viking cutting knife, a Viking arrow head and a Viking drinking cup.

  5. The day was outstanding. a man called Kevin came in and tolled a bunch load of info about the Viking warriors. he showed a lot of weapons that were used back in the Viking time that were used in battle. my favourite part of the day was when we done the tortoise and had to get in a curtain formation and try to save our selves to the arrows (which were used as foam javelins ) thrown at us! it was epic!

  6. A few days ago year five had a wonderful experience. A Viking man came in to school!!! it was really cool because he had brought in all of his weapons. My favourite bit was when he shown us all of the places he had been on the map.

  7. When Kevin came on Friday he brought in loads of weapons and armour that was around in Viking time like spears, shields, swords and axes I got to wear a helmet and I started playing peek a boo

  8. Kevin was strange but we learned a lot from him about Vikings I didn’t know Viking helmets didn’t have horns they actually used horns to sound a alarm that the enemies were coming and as well as using horns to eat and drink and he said in the morning his eyes were bright blue and at night they were dark green!

  9. Kevin was a very cool visitor and made everybody laugh. He brought in loads of different weapons including, swords, shields, spears and many more. he told us all about Viking longboats and that they only ever put up there shields if they were going to war. they travelled through all the rivers of Russia and came out at the Black Sea. then they had many more lands to invade and take there gold! heve ho heve and ho is what they sang on there boats.

  10. Its good to know everything is going well for you guys. Sounds like the Viking man entertained you all. How are you Miss Code?

  13. Kevin the viking man was really funny. He showed us amour. I tried on a helmet. Apparently I looked really silly. He showed us a map. In the afternoon we played 2 Viking games. I was really bad at the 1st game but at least I was ok at the 2nd game. He brought replicas of a spear, axe, sword and a sheild. they looked really real.
